Many car accidents are caused by cars or obstacles that cannot be seen because they are in your blind-spot. These accidents can not only be costly, but can also result in personal injury. Car crashes kill an estimated 1.2 million people worldwide each year, and injure about 40 times this number (WHO, 2004).
Backup collisions often are not considered as serious as car crashes, but they can be quite harmful to children, and not to mention your car. According to research by Kids and Cars an organization devoted to preventing (non-traffic) motor-vehicle-related deaths and injuries 49% of the non-traffic, non-crash fatalities involving children under 15 from 20012005 were caused by vehicles backing up.
Backup collisions happen when a driver reverses their car into an object, person, or another car. Although most cars come equipped with rear view mirrors, which are adequate for detecting vehicles behind a car, they are inadequate on many vehicles for detecting small children or objects close to the ground, which fall in the car's blind spot. How large is your vehicle? Larger vehicles (such as SUVs and pick-up trucks) have much larger blind spots that can hide entire cars and large adults.
One solution that reduces your risk of both backup collisions and car accidents is to invest in auxiliary panoramic mirrors. Panoramic mirror attachments provide for greater driving visibility, and allow you to detect the young child behind the car, or the passing vehicle in your blind-spot. Extending or adding extra mirrors can decrease your blind spot, and enable you to see what is going on around you in much more detail.
Auxiliary mirrors can be clipped on to both your rear-view mirror, and your side mirrors. Simply clipping on an attachment to your rear-view mirror will increase its viewing range so that you can see through both your entire back window, and through the sides of your back window as well. Attachments can also be clipped to your side mirrors, to provide you with a full view of the entire side and rear areas surrounding your car.
